SPARTA, GA WINERY - MEET THE COURSON'S~ The Best Little Winery in Georgia! by Pederzani Photography in Middle Ga.

How did I get to meet Maryleen and Raymond (Beau) Courson, owners of Courson's Winery in Sparta, Georgia? From a radio ad they run on WMAC 940am. One favorite pass time I really enjoy is wine tasting. When I heard their friendly and inviting ad I knew I wanted to go visit. It was our, 34th year anniversary and after dining out for almost every one of them, we wanted to do something different so this time we did.

When we first met Beau, he was talking with a gentleman named, James, about everything but wine. It was easy to enter into their conversation and start talking about family trees and origins of last names, guns, clocks & watches, Indians,  and the like, I could tell immediately I was going to enjoy my visit.  James, knew I was from the north by something I said; we must've talked for twenty minutes or longer before wine was even mentioned.

Then Beau, who has more the twenty years experience as a wine maker, gave us some interesting facts on grapes and brewing techniques. We talked about equipment; oak barrels vs plastic drums vs steel drums, that conversation turned to oxidization then to purchasing grapes and to how to make champagne.

We proceeded on to wine tasting and after a few questions regarding what kind of wines I preferred, we started with the semi sweet reds, my favorite. He informed us the wines were still young and had a fruity flavor. He picked four, according to our taste; Devereux Rouge, Linton red merlot, Syrah and Malbec, all were very smooth and light. Although I normally like a richer bouquet, I found these very good and Don, my husband, thought so too. We picked the red merlot and syrah. Soon we were tasting his line of white wine; which I normally do not buy; but Beau mix Watermelon wine with Sprite and tuned it into a fruity delight. It was very refreshing and different, I can truly say I enjoyed it so much I purchase a bottle!  So we went home with three bottles of wine from Courson's

I couldn't resist wanting to blog about, The Best Little Winery in Georgia, that I ran to the car and got my camera and began taking a few pictures of them and their son,  who is also named Raymond; however most of the pictures used here on the blog came directly from their facebook page. I promised them a future photo shoot when it could be planned; because after all, we were out on our anniversary doing something different, and making new friendships in the process.
